Faith Associates is pleased to announce a series of training sessions taking place for Madrassahs and other out-of-school settings in Brent. These events are aimed to ensure educational centres are equipped with the essential skills and knowledge to effectively manage their operations.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

Wednesday 9 October | 12.00pm to 3.30pm

Aimed at: Madrassah teachers, administrators and leaders

This session is vital for all Madrassahs to ensure they are fully aware of their safeguarding responsibilities for pupils learning at their institutions and gain the knowledge and skills to effectively execute their duties.

 

You will learn about:

This training will enable new and existing staff members to develop an awareness of, and the ability to act on, concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people.  All staff working in Madrassahs should attend this training to ensure they are able to fulfil their role and responsibility to safeguard children.

Attendees should ensure they have access to and have read their Madrassah’s Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy and are familiar their your school’s Code of Conduct for staff.

 

Outcomes:

By the end of this session, staff will be able to:

  • Describe what safeguarding is, the categories of abuse and the different ways in which children can be harmed
  • Recognise and describe indicators of child abuse and neglect including risk factors
  • Describe key updates and themes regarding specific safeguarding issues including CSE and its forms, FGM, HBV, FM, Peer on Peer Abuse and Prevent Agenda
  • Appreciate your own role and responsibilities and those of others in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and considering the best interest of a child
  • Outline what to do if you have concerns about a child in line with your Madrassah’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
  • Understand the procedures in raising a concern and ensuring appropriate referrals are made to Children’s Social Care, this includes monitoring and recording of information
  • Understand how to raise a concern about another member of staff (inappropriate behavior)
  • Safer working practices in line with staff code of conduct
  • Have an understanding of your madrasah’s whistle-blowing procedure

Emergency First Aid

Wednesday 16 October | 9.30am to 5.00pm

Aimed at: Madrassah leaders, managers, head teachers, administrators and senior members of staff

This course is suitable for people aged 16+ who might need to provide first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work. It is ideal for organisations whose first aid needs assessment has identified a requirement for someone to hold a current emergency first aid at work qualification. It gives learners the skills and confidence to respond to a range of accidents and first aid emergencies they could encounter in the workplace.

 

You will learn about:

Learners will develop the skills and confidence to help someone who is:

  • unresponsive and not breathing, including how to use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • unresponsive and breathing
  • having a seizure
  • choking
  • bleeding heavily
  • suffering from shock
  • burnt

 

The course also includes information on:

  • assessing a casualty
  • monitoring a casualty
  • where to get help
  • electrical incidents
  • accident recording and reporting
  • the control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH)

 

Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this training, attendees will be able to:

  • Assess an emergency situation
  • Identify and manage an unconscious casualty
  • Perform effective CPR to a casualty in cardiac arrest
  • Treat someone who is choking
  • Provide First Aid to a casualty that is bleeding
  • Recognise and manage shock
  • Recognise and manage a casualty suffering a seizure
  • Identify and provide treatment for asthma and anaphylaxis
  • Understand applicable legislation for workplace First Aid

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Aimed at: Madrassah teachers and leaders

This course will allow attendees to better understand the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities and set out strategies to support Madrassah students with learning difficulties.

 

You will learn about:

  • Identifying and teaching children with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities
  • Understanding of Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
  • Understanding Dyslexia.
  • The different teaching strategies to teach children with learning difficulties
  • Planning and assessing lessons effectively
  • Teaching children using a multi-sensory approach including lots of fun teaching ideas and activities
  • Developing an SEND policy for the Madrassah

 

Outcomes:

Following the successful completion of this training, attendees will:

  • Be able to identify pupils who require additional support with their learning
  • Have a better understanding of the Autistic Spectrum Disorder and dyslexia
  • Be equipped with strategies to help support pupils will learning difficulties
  • Have enough of an understanding of SEND to develop a policy for their Madrassah

Madrassah Management

Aimed at: Madrassah leaders, managers, head teachers, administrators and senior members of staff

Madrassah Management Training is designed to support the teaching and learning of young people in Madrassahs. The management training seeks to support and nurture the students’ learning experience and has a very clear focus on protecting children and young people in your care from harm through a robust approach to safeguarding. It incorporates the latest safeguarding principles, management, operational and procedural frameworks to support Mosque, Madrassah and school staff to effectively run the educational centre.

Updated in 2019, this training aims to help you effectively and professionally manage and run a Madrassah or Islamic Supplementary School for children and young learners.

 

You will learn about:

  • Defining institutes mission statement and goals, objectives and values
  • Implementing policies to promote student safety and behaviour management
  • Admissions policies and procedures
  • Teacher Management and code of conduct

Digital Safety

Aimed at: Madrassah teachers, administrators and leaders

This training course is designed to assist and support Mosques and Madrassahs in developing their digital safety policies and practices and in engaging parents, teachers and pupils in the digital safety message.

The training is interactive with useful information and real-life cases from the Madrassah and Mosque sector to help you understand your responsibilities.

 

You will learn about:

The aim of this training is to equip Madrassah staff with the knowledge and skills to teach the concept of digital safety to students. The training consists of the following:

  • Risks technology can pose to children and staff
  • Online safety risks that pupils may encounter
  • Prevention measures of e-abuse through filters and monitoring
  • Dealing with disclosures
  • The importance of educating and empowering children
  • How to ensure safe technology use for pupils linked to implementation of policies
  • Awareness of e-safety, sexual exploitation and cyber-bullying
  • How to deal with digital incidents
  • The different types of social media

 

Outcomes:

The course gives an introduction to Digital Safety and social media and raises awareness of:
